A revista Forbes anunciou a lista anual com as 100 celebridades mais poderosas do mundo. A medição, realizada entre junho de 2009 e junho de 2010, apontou algumas tendências e mostrou que o consumo está relacionado diretamente ao sucesso das celebridades.
Na lista, apenas uma presença brasileira, da top model Gisele Bündchen, ocupando a 60ª posição.
Para chegar aos 100 nomes, a Forbes leva em consideração alguns critérios, como estimativas de lucros, que incluem receitas de filmes, programas de TV, livros e empresas entretenimento. Segundo seu site, os números foram arredondados quando necessários e incluíram outras fontes como a Billboard, fama calculada utilizando hits da web, pesquisa em blogs, TV, rádio e imprensa em geral. Além disso, a hierarquia social – calculada utilizando métricas como amigos no Facebook e fãs, assim como seguidores no Twitter – contou pontos positivos.
